HOW BON JOUR BEGAN

It has always been natural for me to evaluate singles, even guys I dated, and think who the best match for them would be. It wasn’t always me. In 1989 I heard of a service called Great Expectations. As a single myself, I reviewed their structure and felt it was impersonal and overpriced. Not a service I would use. Because of my natural instincts to match people it occurred to me that perhaps this was my destiny. I designed a structure the total opposite of GE, much more client friendly, personal and affordable.

That was before the Internet and Apps…you wonder how I did it. Because I was the only matchmaker in town I did get lots of free publicity through newspapers, tv and radio. I also got involved in many volunteer events to get the word out. I had a structure where clients were required to refer a single they knew as part of their affordable fee so as to not have to raise fees for advertising. That process worked for many, many years and kept Bon Jour Matchmaking Service safe and upscale.

Once the Internet, website, background checks became so easy, that has catapulted business to another level. The advent of Internet dating sites, dating apps and the local matchmaking marketplace that never existed before has made singles feel much more comfortable considering professional matchmaking.

I continue in year 33 to offer the old-fashioned matchmaking approach and my fees fall below my competition knowing that the service will not work for every client for one reason or another. That’s just life. It’s like the stock market…you invest your money in hopes of a greater return, but that is not always the case. Obviously for different reasons. Clients themselves have more than 50% of the responsibility of their success before and after they are matched. I can suggest, coach and listen, but clients are not obligated to follow my advice. The ones who have, have gotten married. Although Bon Jour/I have a track record of more than 300 marriages (600 singles who have married), the more impressive part of that equation to me is that almost all of them married either the first or second person they met in the service, regardless of how long it took…thanks to the open-ended contract every client receives! It doesn’t get better than that!
