Should You Invest in a Denver Dating Service or a Denver Matchmaking Service?

When deciding to use a matchmaking service one of the most important considerations is are you looking to “date” or to “mate”.  You should feel that your investment is in your future, starting a brand-new life with someone who you have chosen who has chosen you.  If you are truly serious about finding love, then it may be time to get serious about how to achieve that goal.

If you are interested in immediate gratification than a REAL matchmaker is not what you are looking for.  I am from the old school of matchmaking combined with the realities of 2023.  If you are looking for “dates” i.e., buying a specific package of dates for a specific period of time, then Bon Jour is not for you.  If, however, you have played the numbers game with the Internet dating sites to no avail and/or other services who sell “dates” with no…

If, however, you have played the numbers game with the Internet dating sites to no avail and/or other services who sell “dates” with no success perhaps it is time to go old school.

Old school meaning one matchmaker who knows all of her clients, who gets to know you personally, who has an open-ended contract so that whenever the right person comes in you will be here.  Collaborative matchmaking not a dictatorship.  Matchmaking that gives you substantial information on each client including current photos, a 6-page profile and my input from my knowledge and experience of 34 years in the matchmaking business.

If you are serious about finding “the one” perhaps it’s now time to get serious about how you do that.  Matchmaking is an art.  It is not always immediate gratification…”well what do I get for the filing fee”?  Hopefully you get married when the right person presents themselves, you continue to be a client until and when that person presents themselves, you invest a fraction of the expense you would pay in services who just throw you together with the number of dates you purchased.  You get a REAL matchmaker who has had 300+ successful marriages and knows what works and what doesn’t.  You meet ONLY the appropriate matches based on your preferences and criteria who have been vetted by me.  You also receive access to the single professionals who are prevalent in Denver and who are genuinely serious about their future and finding a mate!

SOME PEOPLE BRING OUT THE BEST, SOME THE WORST…WHICH ARE YOU? EXAMPLE: Philip Fernbach

Even in a phone call to me about my matchmaking service, I have experienced people who just make me feel great about representing them or even declining to. Then there are those who are totally combative, are running their own agenda and argue with me about everything I explain to them.

Yesterday I received an email from Philip Fernbach, a professor at CU Boulder wanting to set up a phone consultation. As always, I do some amount of research before I speak with someone. There is a fair amount on him on Google. So, I took the call and from the outset this guy bragged about himself, stipulated that he ONLY is interested in the most beautiful women BUT why would beautiful women pay for a service? Well, if you’re so great, why would YOU pay for a Denver matchmaking service???

The reason anyone pays for a service is they want their matches to be vetted. Especially successful, attractive, accomplished singles want to know that the people they meet are equally invested in finding love and someone knows them.

Mr. Fernbach brought out the absolute worst in me although I was trying to contain myself. He was just combative. So shortly after I declined to work with him, he jumped on Yelp (predictable) and TOTALLY LIED about our interaction. There were legitimate things he could have said, but he chose to lie. This guy is a professor! I venture to say that even if he met his “perfect” woman, she would have no interest in him. I wouldn’t put my clients through the disrespect and condescension he would cause.

So, I take responsibility for the way I handled it as I could have done better. But he brought out the worst in me, so I ended the call and after that decided I am taking a well deserved break.

TOO BUSY TO NURTURE A RELATIONSHIP?

As mentioned previously on this website, I have a Behavioral Agreement for every client. The purpose is to optimize your success for a potential relationship. My clients are great for the most part at adhering to the Agreement. However, over the 34 years I have had some who were so busy they ruined any chance of a potential relationship succeeding.

Interestingly these clients have all been women. I understand a busy life/schedule, but if you do not find the time to nurture a possible relationship then no service will help you. I ended up dropping these clients as it was too frustrating for my male clients. So, if this is you, don’t waste your money unless you are serious enough to adjust your lifestyle.

It’s like when people ask me my success rate…it’s only as good as the clients. I’m only 50% of the equation. You are the other 50%! That’s why I’m so discerning as to who I accept as a client.

Many clients have tried Dating Apps and Dating Sites and experienced the above scenario. I do not want that to be their experience in Bon Jour Matchmaking. So, think long and hard about your lifestyle and whether you are willing to tweak it to include and nurture a relationship.

DENVER MATCHMAKER MADE FOR THIS ROLE

WHY MICHELE FIELDS IS SO SUCCESSFUL

Michele “the Matchmaker” Fields has not found her match in her 34 year career as a Denver Matchmaker but she has facilitated 312+ marriages since 1989!

It has become clear to Michele that her role in this life is to assist other singles to find love even though it has been elusive for her.  This alone shows that services are not magical fixes when the owner who meets everyone first has not sealed the deal herself.  There are just some people who will not meet that right person and there is no way to know who or why that happens.

The great part about Michele being single herself is that she can really empathize with each and every client in the service as to the challenges and insecurities that come along with dating.  That is an invaluable trait.  She is so hands-on and able to illuminate and…

ANYTHING ELSE IS MERELY AN IMITATION

Michele "the Matchmaker" Fields's avatarBon Jour Matchmaking Service

Bon Jour Matchmaking Service is the name of a service, however matchmaking is my calling.  This isn’t just what I do, this is who I am.  In 1989 I felt that calling which became my career.  As with any successful career there will be imitators.  That was pointed out to me by a friend of 40+ years who, back in 1997 gave his sister, Renee Piane, my Press Kit detailing the structure and philosophy of Bon Jour.

I shared my Press Kit with the Piane family at the time because I had known them for years and had moved away in 1981 from back east to Denver.  It crossed my mind briefly that I was taking a chance leaving this information which was meant for future clients and the press with the Pianes but I trusted them and assumed they would just be proud of what I had created…

ARE DENVER MATCHMAKERS DOING THEIR JOB?

Michele "the Matchmaker" Fields's avatarBon Jour Matchmaking Service

I guess the answer depends on your definition of a “Matchmaker”.  It also depends on your agenda when using Denver matchmaking services.  According to World English Dictionary it’s a limited definition (in my opinion)…
World English Dictionary
matchmaker 1 (ˈmætʃˌmeɪkə)
— n
1. a person who brings together suitable partners for marriage

It seems currently in Denver you have two viable options to go about selecting a “matchmaker” to assist you in finding a mate.  There are the packages that have become extremely popular with franchise and local matchmaking services because it takes all of the work out of it for them.  You sign a contract for a specific period of time (for thousands of dollars) for a specific number of “dates”. You receive very, very limited information about the person, no photos or profile per se and you rely entirely on either someone who has met you once or…

IT’S NOT ABOUT MONEY FOR THIS DENVER MATCHMAKER EVEN WITH CELEBRITIES

Michele "the Matchmaker" Fields's avatarBon Jour Matchmaking Service

In many of the posts both on my Blog and Pages I’ve reiterated that I decline more prospects than I accept as I need to protect my clients and that person needs to fit in with the service.

This week a well known and controversial Denver personality contacted me to become a client of Bon Jour Matchmaking.  First the good stuff…he’s in great shape, attractive, intelligent, articulate, well read, financially well off and recently infamous…

In some other posts I referred to the fact that even though I’ve been practicing Denver matchmaking for 25 years, on this 25th anniversary situations are coming up that have NEVER come up before…

I was surprised to hear from this particular person as our paths have crossed in the past and according to him, he didn’t see any value in this type of service at that time.  So first of all he wanted to…

REVIEW FROM MY CLIENT OF A DENVER MATCHMAKING SERVICE

Hi Michele,

I know you like to post on your website warning single people of the local Denver matchmaking services that are less than scrupulous.  As you know, I used It’s Just Lunch (should be called, It’s Just a Huge Waste of Your Time and Money) before I started working with you at Bon Jour Matchmaking. I’ve had problems with them calling me every few months ever since I stopped using their service…which I stopped in July 2012!

I hope you can warn people – do not give these people your contact information. They will just keep calling and calling until they drive you crazy, even if you spell out for them exactly what you didn’t like and tell them in no uncertain terms you would NEVER utilize their so called service again. I would complain to their Corporate HQ but the people that run this are so dishonest, I know it wouldn’t make a whit of difference. Thank goodness for caller ID, but still a huge aggravation. In my humble opinion, lack of respect for your privacy is another great reason to be careful who you work with in such a personal endeavor.

Hope you’re having a great weekend.

Best,

J.H.

UNDERSTANDING BON JOUR MATCHMAKING’S FEE STRUCTURE

Michele "the Matchmaker" Fields's avatarBon Jour Matchmaking Service

Rather than have a flat fee painting everyone with the same brush OR having preliminary interviews to assess how much I think a client can afford to quote their fee like most other Denver matchmakers…Bon Jour’s fee structure ranges from $4500 to $5500.

It is based on these four criteria:

  • How much I think I can do for you
  • How marketable you are within my service
  • Challenges you may have
  • Your expectations

So don’t get excited if I quote you a lower end fee.  It means I can help you but there may be challenges that will effect your success.

The higher to the upper end of the fee structure means I either know clients who might be interested in meeting you or you are the type of person most of my clients prefer.  Also you may be a person with less challenges, i.e. multiple divorces, lots of…
